Types of Art Framing that we practice...

Updated: Mar 4, 2023

  1. Stretching on Canvas

This is one of the most preferred ways of framing when working with art on canvas. Canvas is a type of fabric that is rather resilient, and can be 'stretched' over a wooden base. The stretched canvas is then hammered with nails at the back to reinforce it to the wooden base. In this way the artwork takes the shape of the 'wooden frame' at the base. This allows the artwork to be viewed uninterrupted without any sort of restrictions.

2. Framed with wooden strips & backing

This is a more traditional way of framing art. We create a wooden backing and add wooden or fibre frame strips alongside the periphery giving an outline to the artwork. This technique works in accentuating the artwork as well as preserving it for long. Such type of framing also comes with a glass or a non reflective acrylic to protect the surface of the artwork. This type of framing is typically done when the artwork is on Fine art paper, Photo paper or even Canvas.

3. Frame with Mount

This is another way to accentuate your art or to even add size or shape to it. The Mount is a white card like paper used over the boundary of the artwork as seen in the "Minimalist collection" poster beneath the glass covering. Adding a mount can make the artwork stand out more prominently. In terms of its application, it is used when framing photographs and colourful posters as well.

There are many more types of frames such a:

Deep set frame, which is a box like frame within which the artwork is centrally placed.

Table top frame, which is a self standing box like frame, slightly broader allowing the artwork to be placed on a table or a shelf.

Sandwich frame, in which the artwork is placed or sandwiched between 2 clear acrylic surfaces. This allows the artwork more breathing room and also serves as a way to preserve the artwork.

Floating frames are now very popular in which there is a small gap left between the stretched canvas and the outer frame around the artwork. It adds depth and allows the focus to remain on the subject of the artwork. It also allows the artwork to stand out more.
